Boating with Kids Over the course of the last year I have spent enough time walking along the side of one canal or another. In 2018 it was the Caledonian canal when I walked the Great Glen Way. This year it has been the Forth and Clyde and Union canals during the walk on the John Muir Way. During our holiday to Dallavich we were invited to meet up with relatives, sure we said, but where?  The answer was the Crinan Canal, obviously I wasn't very enthusiastic  about this as, it  boring to walk along a canal after a wee while. My wife explained that we weren't going for a canal walk but we were going on the water. Falkirk to Linlithgow Rail Bridge, Linlithgow How to get there As always, if your getting public transport to Falkirk from Glasgow then the best bet would be the Edinburgh train from Glasgow Queen Street to Falkirk High train station. There is  a regular b us service from Glasgow to Falkirk, although it is best to check the details of this at Buchanan Street station.  Distance and Elevation  The total distance for the walk to Linlithgow was only 12km, which was mainly on a canal path, as you can see with the elevation graph below there was a short ascent at the start of the walk, going through Callender Wood at the back of Callender park. The Canal at Fort Augustus After a long walk on Day 2, I had planned a shorter hike the following day. The walk from Kytra Lock to Inver-Collie Campsite is only 10 miles and takes you through Fort Augustus. There are gift shops, cafes and bars. The only grocery shop I found was the one attached to the petrol station. It was basic but did have a small pharmacy attached. I managed to pick up enough food and medical supplies for the rest of my trip. Fort Augustus is the start of the Loch Ness section of the walk, and you have to wait a while after hiking out of the small town before you get a glimpse of the famous Loch.
